I saw a solitary little clump of Self-heal (Prunella vulgaris) growing out of a crack in the pavement against a brick wall at the end of my road. Not spectacular but it shows how tenacious this doughty little plant is.
It grows in a range of habitats; in particular in grassy areas. This time last year I spent a few days at the Kingcombe Meadows in Dorset, ancient hay meadows that have never been farmed by modern agricultural methods. Here Self-heal is an essential component of the astonishing tapestry of flowers that grow among the grasses.
