Persicaria amplexicaulis is a reliable splash of strong colour for the late summer garden. I bought these at a plant fair a few years ago, a cultivar called 'Firetail' as I recall.
  P. amplexicaulis hails from the Himalayas so it's tough and untroubled by what the UK can throw at it.
